The In-Office Interview

The in-office interview provides an opportunity for you to get to know Dewey & LeBoeuf's practice and people, and to make sure the firm is a good fit for your interests. You will be scheduled to meet with four to five lawyers, including partners and associates, who will interview you and answer your questions. If you are interested in specific areas of the firm's practice or wish to speak to a lawyer with a specific demographic background, please do not hesitate to tell the recruiting administrator or lawyer when you contact us to schedule your interview.

The Overall Interview Process

The typical progression of an interview for our summer program is:

  • Select candidates receive a callback invitation (most often, this takes place after one of our lawyers meets a candidate during an on-campus visit). These candidates will visit the firm's offices and interview with lawyers.
  • When you call to schedule the interview, you will be asked to indicate your practice area interests so we can arrange for you to speak with lawyers from those specialty areas.
  • Bring extra copies of your updated resume, a transcript and a writing sample to the interview.
  • After you arrive at our office, you will meet with a series of lawyers. Each lawyer meeting will last for approximately 30 minutes. Depending on the timing of your interview, you have the option of going to lunch with junior associates.
  • To the extent you are interviewing at other firms, and to facilitate reimbursement for your travel and hotel expenses, consider choosing a "host" firm for your interview trip. The host firm helps coordinate your visit. You will make hotel and travel reservations through, and submit any additional costs such as cabs or meals to, the host firm. The host firm will handle billing the other firms you visit on your trip.
  • Make sure to get receipts for your reimbursable expenses. You may use the NALP Travel Reimbursement Form to track your trip expenses.

If you receive an offer from Dewey & LeBoeuf, we encourage you to return for a second visit to gather as much information as you can about the firm's people and our practice. For your return visit, you may request meetings with lawyers from specific practice areas and indicate the seniority level of lawyer (i.e., first-year associate, senior associate, partner) that you would like to meet.

Judicial Clerks

Dewey & LeBoeuf actively seeks to hire judicial clerks. The firm pays qualifying judicial clerks a bonus of $50,000 for a one-year clerkship and $70,000 for a for a two-year clerkship. Please apply directly to the recruiting contact of the office in which you are interested.
