Dewey & LeBoeuf Wins Financial Times and mergermarket "Visegrad Legal Advisor of the Year" in Third Annual European M&A Awards
(London, December 10, 2009) ─ Global law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf last night was awarded "Visegrad Legal Advisor of the Year" in the third Financial Times and mergermarket Annual European M&A Awards. The award recognises outstanding M&A achievements across the Visegrad region, which comprises the Central European countries of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
Dewey & LeBoeuf's London and Warsaw offices were critical to this victory. London Corporate Partners Stephen Horvath, Simon Briggs and James McNally worked on some of the largest transactions in Central Europe through 2009, while in Poland, the key partners include Jarosław Grzesiak, Lejb Fogelman and Paweł Bajno.
Deals that caught the judges' attention included Dewey & LeBoeuf's work for American International Group (AIG), which agreed to combine its Polish consumer finance business, AIG Bank Polska S.A., with Santander Consumer Bank, S.A., earlier this year; plus the firm's work for Central European Media Enterprises Ltd. (CME), a broadcasting company operating in seven Central European countries, that acquired MediaPro Entertainment, a producer and distributor of television fiction, and owner of one of the largest studio and production facilities in Central and Eastern Europe, also in 2009. These transactions also involved the firm's New York offices, with Partners Robert Rachofsky involved on the AIG deal and Jeffrey Potash on CME.
"The Financial Times and mergermarket Award is a tribute to the highly successful integration of our London M&A practice and our market-leading Warsaw office," said Partner Stephen Horvath, who heads the M&A team in London. "Dewey & LeBoeuf combined to create a bigger platform for our clients across Europe and globally. It is encouraging to see such recognition for our clients' achievements, and from such a distinguished judging panel and publishing house."
The gala awards dinner was held at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London on December 9. The judging panel for the Awards included Brian Caplen, Editor of The Banker; Keith Harris, Chairman of Seymour Pierce; Neil Hume, Senior Stockmarket Correspondent, Financial Times; Lina Saigol, European M&A Correspondent, Financial Times; and Paulo Pereira, a partner at Perella Weinberg Partners. The Awards were hosted by Declan Curry of BBC Business News, with a welcome address from Rona Fairhead, CEO, Financial Times.
The firm triumphed among a high-profile shortlist that comprised Clifford Chance, CMS, Dewey & LeBoeuf, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and White & Case.
