Paul L. Gioia
Of Counsel
Before joining Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, Mr. Gioia was senior vice president of First Albany Corporation, a regional brokerage and investment banking firm. Mr. Gioia headed First Albany's utility and energy finance unit, which provided investment banking and consulting services to utilities and independent energy companies.
Mr. Gioia served as chairman of the New York State Public Service Commission from April 1981 to February 1987. Before 1981, Mr. Gioia served as First Assistant Counsel to Governor Hugh L. Carey and as a member of the legal staff of Governors Rockefeller, Wilson, and Carey.
Representative Matters
- Court-appointed examiner. Mr. Gioia served as the court-appointed examiner in bankruptcy proceedings for the Public Service Company of New Hampshire and the El Paso Electric Company; and
- Lead counsel. Mr. Gioia served as lead counsel to the New York Power Pool in the formation of the New York Independent System Operator and establishment of competitive electric market in New York State.
