John C. LaMaster

John LaMaster is the chairman of the firm's Oil & Gas Global Industry Sector Group and a member of the firmwide Executive Committee. Mr. LaMaster has a broad commercial practice, including international mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, project development and related activities, with a particular emphasis on the energy industry. He has over 25 years of experience in virtually all areas of the energy industry, including upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas, electricity generation, biofuels, chemicals and petrochemicals. He has worked on energy transactions throughout Europe, Russia and the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, India, Africa and the US.

  • Representing an international oil company in its development of renewable diesel projects throughout Europe
  • Representing a Chinese oil company in connection with the acquisition and development of upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas interests in Niger and Chad
  • Representing a Nordic electricity company in connection with the €2.5 billion acquisition of electricity generation and distribution assets in Russia, and in connection with a related €2.5 billion investment program
  • Representing an international electricity company in connection with English High Court litigation regarding ownership of Co2 emissions allowances under the EU ETS
  • Representing the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Energy of Equatorial Guinea in connection with various oil and gas matters, including revisions to its oil and gas law and production-sharing contracts
  • Representing an international oil company in connection with a series of oil and gas acquisitions and divestures in Nigeria, Oman and Yemen
  • Represented a Chinese oil company in its joint acquisition with an Indian oil company of the Syrian oil and gas interests of an international oil company
  • Represented an international oil company in the divestiture of its 50 percent interest in Closed Joint Stock Company "SeverTEK" to a Russian oil company
  • Represented Amer Sports Corporation (owner of brands including Atomic (skis), Wilson (tennis, golf, etc.), Precor (fitness equipment), and Suunto (sports instruments)) in the acquisition of the Salomon ski business from Adidas-Salomon AG for approximately €485 million
  • Represented an international electricity company in the $847 million exchange of electricity generation and distribution companies and assets in Germany, Ireland, Norway, Russia, and Sweden
  • Represented a Danish company, a Norwegian company and a UK company in the acquisition and development of the Barrow offshore wind farm in the UK
  • Represented an international oil company in the divestiture of the Suneinah oil and gas concession in Oman, which covers approximately 966,000 acres, and is the second-largest oil- and gas-producing contract area in Oman
  • Represented the UK subsidiary of a Canadian company in the acquisition of northern North Sea oil and gas properties, including the Columba, Lyell, Murchison, Ninian, and Strathspey Fields, and in the divestiture of its interest in the Harding Field
  • Acted for an international energy company in the divestiture of its chemicals business to a Swedish private equity group for approximately $600 million
  • Represented a Finnish energy company in connection with its joint venture with a Norwegian energy company to combine their worldwide petrochemicals businesses, creating Borealis A/S
