Yannis Samothrakis

Associate

Yannis Samothrakis is an associate in the Paris office. He practices in insurance and reinsurance law.

Mr. Samothrakis has advised clients on domestic and European regulatory matters such as the cross-border provision of insurance services, branch business across the EU, compliance with French law provisions for European and non-European companies, as well as issues linked to the implementation of the insurance mediation directive. He has also been involved in insurance litigation, arbitration, cross-border and domestic corporate operations.

Representative Matters

Negotiating the merger between two French reinsurers;
Advising Luxembourg-based life insurers wishing to enter the French life assurance market;
Advising a French mutual insurer on the launch of a new product;
Advising a group of major reinsurers on the possible implications of the Reinsurance directive for the French market;
Assisting a Swiss reinsurer in the context of an arbitration with a French cedant;
Assisting a French insurer in recovering amounts due by UK-based reinsurers; and
Prior to joining Dewey & LeBoeuf, Yannis Samothrakis worked at the Economics & Finance Committee of the European Insurers Federation (CEA) in Brussels, as well as in the legal department of Skandia Life in the UK.
