Dewey & LeBoeuf Arbitration Specialist Appointed as Arbitrator to World Bank Affiliated Investment Disputes Panel
(London / Paris / Berlin / Washington, DC, October 19, 2007) - Dewey & LeBoeuf announces that Dr Sabine Konrad, of its Paris office, has been designated by the Federal Republic of Germany as member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). ICSID was established in 1966 under an international convention, to which 144 countries are now member states. With over 110 pending cases, ICSID is the most important institution in the world for the settlement of investment disputes between governments and private foreign investors.
Sabine is the youngest Arbitrator ever to be appointed to ICSID's panel. She joins on the panel Mr. Arthur Marriott, QC, Partner of Dewey & LeBoeuf's London office and co-head of Dewey & LeBoeuf's international dispute resolution practice, who is a conciliator on the ICSID panel as well as a Member of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration.
Sabine is an associate in Dewey & LeBoeuf's Paris office, specialising in international dispute resolution, international arbitration and public international law. She regularly advises investors and governments in matters of investment protection.
Sabine's recent experience in the area of Bilateral Investment Treaties, includes:

representing a German investor in its dispute with a Latin American state

representing a German investor in its dispute with the Kingdom of Thailand

representing an Eastern European government in its dispute with a multinational steel conglomerate

advising a German investor in its dispute with a Southern Asian state

advising a German investor on a potential dispute with a state in Gulf region
Sabine also advises and represents clients in cases concerning other areas of public international law, such as human rights and state sovereignty. In the past, she acted for an applicant in a Chamber case before the European Court of Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Committee concerning restitution of expropriated property in an Eastern European state.
Sabine was closely involved in setting up the Frankfurt International Arbitration Center which serves as a cooperation facility of ICSID for investment treaty arbitrations in Germany.
