Brazil Adopts A New Law Authorizing Credit Reporting Registries and Credit Reports: Has the Time for Cross-border Consumer Structured Finance Finally Arrived to Brazil?
Much has been written regarding the growing middle class in Brazil and the consumer credit boom in Brazil, particularly the growing needs regarding access of consumers to mortgage credit. At the same time, the amount of cross-border and even local mortgage related securitized debt issuances is still small. A number of obstacles exist, although one historically significant one has recently been eliminated: the development of a framework for capturing borrower data and credit scores.
